A High School in Jacksonville Florida is, incredibly, still named after the first Grand Wizard of the KKK and confederate General in the Civil War, Nathan Bedford Forest. Over half of the students in attendance are African American.  The School board previously voted to keep the name in 2007, but due to a petition on by an angry parent, the issue was brought up again in a Town Hall meeting recently and the school board will be meeting to discuss a name change this Thursday.  The School board has since received a letter from the KKK asking them to keep the name of the school.  The petition on has since reached 147,897signatures.  Add your name to the list and tell Jacksonville’s School Board that we will no longer tolerate racism.

NFL Tax Exempt

The NFL has the highest attended sport events in the world and highest grossing sports league in the United States.  However, the NFL is currently tax exempt.  How do they achieve this? The NFL qualifies as a nonprofit association even while making revenue in the 100 millions.  This is accomplished by charging individual teams membership dues & assessments which are considered “donations” to the NFL. The IRS specifically allows professional football leagues non-profit status and yet no other sports are included in the code.

IRC 501(c)(6) provides for exemption of business leagues, chambers of commerce, real estate boards, boards of trade, and professional football leagues (whether or not administering a pension fund for football players), which are not organized for profit and no part of the net earnings of which inures to the benefit of any private shareholder or individual.
